Jessamyn is an incredible lady. Her message of being body positive has inspired people around the country and world. She is also down to earth delightful and beautiful.
I knew she wanted an urban feel to highlight her yoga gear from @fullbeautystyle. We started with the amazing grafitti wall at Mercury Studios/The Makery and moved on to an industrial giant dark wood door and finished up the shoot at Durham Central Park. I had a scouting party around this area to make sure I had picked the right spots. Read on for more photos and notes on why I chose the locations I did!
I chose the pink and blue graffiti wall with the central white door to focus attention on Jessamyn and her amazing moves while also highlighting the fun and colorful gear. The visual and organic movement of the graffiti also helped play off the movements of her yoga practice.
I picked out the big dark door and to provide framing as well as contrast between the background and the clothes. The big door also had a warehouse, almost industrial feel coupled with the plain concrete ground which I knew Jessamyn would like.
The last place was the Durham Central Park with it's towers of rocks and slides and skate park. I had seen the park weeks ago and had been dying to do a shoot there. When Jessamyn and I were talking locations I mentioned it to her and she really liked the idea.
The skate park at Durham Central Park was the final location. There was a great half dome there which provided a plain backdrop against which the colors would pop and which would also compliment the neutral outfits. I also liked the idea of nodding to the bright and organic colors of skateboard designs by using her brightly colored outfits.
Jessamyn is inspiring, fun, and lovely, I highly recommend you check out her site, blog and instagram!
